The Granny Square Challenge - Day #1

Day #1 - Sunburst Granny Square by Nittybits

In an attempt to master the "Granny Square" and some other new stitches, i have decided to crochet one-a-day this year an give myself an afghan for a reward at the end of 2014!

I browsed Pinterest and found so many wonderful squares that i'd love to make. Thinking this one pattern looked easy and pretty i chose it! Being a toy maker, it was a little harder than i thought. Learning "puff stitches" and "clusters" was fun and tricky at first! I...er...accidentally went with 12 dc to start with instead of 16 so i adapted the pattern to suit....and added an extra row to make it larger. I used a 4.00 mm hook, i'm a tight crocheter so i always go slightly larger than recommended.

So i grabbed a few scrap balls of yarn....

Round One:- Just a circle of dc's :)

Round Two:- Puff stitches, something new for me!!!

Round Three:- Cluster stitches, more new style!

Round Four:- Shaping with tbc, dc & hdc (i skipped the hdc in the centre side because i only had 12 instead of 16 stitches due to misreading the pattern LOL we all make mistakes!)

Round 5 & 6:- Regular 3 dc & chains for Granny Squareness!

Now i just need to block it and stack it, ready for more! :)
Stay tuned for Day # 2!
